Overall, 34,326 Spanish property sales were registered in April, which equates to an increase in the overall number of sales of 17.6% compared to the same month in 2009, and continues the trend seen in the number of transactions since the beginning of the year.
According to the Spanish National Institute of Statistics, sales of second hand properties have increased by 26.6% compared to last year, whilst sales of new build Spanish property has also risen by 9.8%.
Cantabria was the region with most sales, with almost double the national average, whilst the Balearic Islands, Murcia, the region of Valenciana and Andalucía all had sales above the national average. In sheer numbers the Andalucía region has the most number of properties sold, with 6,586 in total. Andalucia includes the popular tourist area of the Costa del Sol as well as the larger towns of Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada. However, these figures do not mean that property prices have increased, but that the total number of sales have done so.
