Guide to Property for Sale in Coin

Find Property for Sale in Coin

Coin is a town that has been established for at least the last millenium.  There have been archaeological finds dating from the Copper Age in Coin in several cave-like sites, including the Cerro de Ardite, Cerro Carranque and Llano de la Virgen todos de la Edad del Cobre y el último declarado Bien de Interés Cultural.  There is also evidence of populations in Coin from the Greek, Phoenician, Iberian, Roman and Visigod eras.  In particular, the Roman age is well documented due to pottery and utensils found in the area, even if it cannot be identified as party of the town, they were present in the area.

There is evidence of an ancient church on the Monda road which can be traced to being between the 8th and 10th century, which strongly suggests the presence of a community at the time. Between the 10th & 13th Centuries, the town was occupied during the Moorish occupation of southern Spain, when the town was actually known as "Hish Dakwan" and around the 15th Century was an important town within the Kingdom of Granada.
However, the Catholic Kings occupied the town on the 27 of April 1485, amid scenes of intense battle, and afterwards destroyed the fort that had been constructed as a means of defending the town.  It was another two and a half years before the town was again populated, the towns population was reduced from 3,000 to around 450 people, and a slow repopulation began over the following centuries.

In the 18th Century, the Spanish King Carlos III decided that the town should have a celebratory feria between the 11th - 14th August each year due to its growing commercial importance, and this tradition survives to this day, with the locally famous "Feria de Coin".

Nowadays, Coin is an important town in the Malaga area, linking the inland rural towns with the more urban coastal area of the Costa del Sol.  The town therefore benefits from more urban and commercial facilities than the more isolated inland towns, and acts as a small hub in the region.  An example of this is because the new "La Trocha" commercial centre was constructed in the town, which gave the rural towns access to large supermarkets, major retail shops and cinema facilities which also have screens in English.  The town is also linked to Monda (which is next to Marbella) by means of a dual carriageway / motorway which greatly improves access to this rural area.

Like most Andalucian towns, the people of Coin also enjoy eating out in restaurants and Tapas bars.  In the town itself there are an abundance of restaurants where you can sit in a typical Spanish plaza (square) with a glass of wine and enjoy eating tapas whilst watching the world go by.  There are also typical rural "ventas" dotted along the roads connecting Coin with other towns of the inland Andalucia, which are usually excellent value for money.

It is safe to say that Coin has the best of both worlds - it is just 20 minutes from the Costa del Sol but is also maintains the unspoilt nature of inland Andalucia. If you are looking for a Spanish property for sale that has plenty of land, is in a rustic area and yet is not too far from the beach, then maybe this is the place for you.  Property for sale in Coin is varied, from new build apartments to fincas for sale in Coin, this is the place where old meets new.  The town is also home to a predominantly local population, who tend to live in deceptively large townhouses in Coin town centre.  However, it has become more of a trend in recent years for foreign buyers to realise the value for money that such properties represent, when you consider the comfort of having everything to hand in the town centre.
