Ronda Property For Sale

Guide to Property for Sale in Ronda

Find Property for Sale in Ronda

Ronda is located in the north west of the Malaga province, some 45 minutes inland from the Mediterranean coast.  It was made famous by Ernest Hemingway's celebrated love of the town, which was reflected by it being an important town in his award-winning novel, "For Whom the Bell Tolls". The landscape of Ronda is dominated by soaring mountains and the world famous bridge which soars high above the immense plains that stretch out below the town, and is also home to one of the most famous bullrings in Spain. If you are looking for a property in Ronda, there could be no more truly authentic Andalusian town in which to buy a property.

Ronda is also one of the oldest cities of Spain, which is demonstrated by the caves present in the town, such as "Pileta's Cave", where ancient paintings can be found on the walls which date from the Paleolithic age.  Furthermore, there are archaeological remains in the town that date from  the time of the Roman empire, when the town was known not as Ronda, but as "Acinipo", which are not only well preserved, but also have amazing features of a Roman town, such as the amphitheater.

Following the fall of the Roman presence in the city, Ronda was then considered one of the to be as one of the leading cities in the Arab occupation of Spain, arriving to the category of main city of one of the Kuras (Provinces) of Al-Andalus.

Following the re-conquest of the city by the Catholic Kings of the 15th Century, great cultural and physical changes happened to the town, such as the opening of new "plazas" (squares) which did not exist before. Later on in the modern era, the New Bridge was constructed (in Spanish the "puente") and the Bullring was also built, which are now the most visited of all attractions in Ronda.  This established the romantic image of the city, and visitors come to the town to see the outstanding landscape of the "Serrania" (mountains), as well as the bridge and bullring.

Ronda is also home to a great variety of restaurants, tapas bars and ventas (rural, roadside restaurants) and the town is well known for its quality as a place to eat out.  Take an afternoon out to visit the various tapas bars in the town centre, going from one to the other enjoying a drink and a small tapa in each - there can surely be no better way to spend an afternoon!

As it is a fairly substantially sized town, the property for sale in Ronda is very varied.  As it is such an ancient town, there is a smaller percentage of new build properties, such as apartments and townhouses, than in the coastal areas of Andalucia.  As it is rural, there are a great number of fincas for sale in the plains, and up in the town itself there are many Andalusian townhouses, some apartments and some villas for sale in Ronda.  The serrania (mountains) are home to villas perched high up, with outstanding views but where access is more difficult.  All in all, this is the perfect place to find a typically Spanish property for sale, as you are far from the beach resorts which are occupied by foreign tourists and in the heart of a truly historic town.
