Guide to Property for Sale in Alozaina & Tolox

Find Property for Sale in Alozaina & Tolox

Alozaina and Tolox are the best known of the towns located in the beautiful Sierra de las Nieves mountains north west of Malaga. Both towns are located within a few minutes drive of each other and enjoy awe inspiring views over the Sierra de las Nieves mountains and to the plains below them, due to their elevated aspects.  Both towns are part of the Sierra de las Nieves which was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, which is therefore strictly protected. They often have the awe inspiring sight of snow topped mountains in the winter time, with the backdrop of blue skies and sunshine, which is an unusual sight in Southern Europe.

Tolox is the first town that you encounter when driving from the Costa del Sol. Following either the road from Fuengirola or the Airport, you will pass through the town of Coin and Tolox is approximately 25 minutes further on.  Tolox is most famous for its natural baths, called the "Fuente Amargosa", which is visited by people looking to cure or alleviate respiratory, skin or allergic conditions.  The town has a very long history, having initially been founded by Omar Ben Hafsun in the year 883.  It was then occupied by Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths, Moorish invaders and finally Christians. There is a beautiful hotel called "Cerro del Hijar" which is perched on the top of a hill in Tolox which has an excellent restaurant and enjoys fantastic views over the town and the surrounding areas. Property for sale in Tolox is significantly cheaper than equivalent properties on the coast. There are some newer properties in the town, both apartments and villas, as well as traditionally Andalucian townhouses, villas and fincas located in the town and dotted around the countryside also.

Alozaina is located around 10 minutes further inland than Tolox in the Guadalhorce Valley, from the Rio Grande to the Sierra Prieta in the north.  This mix of landscapes, from soaring mountains, to a river and valley give the town a varied landscaped of great beauty.  The town itself is a typically whitewashed Andalucian village, which actually won the award for Spain's prettiest village in 1977.  The centerpiece of the village is the Moorish Fort which surrounds Alozaina's historic church and is home to all of the village fiestas.  The village is also surrounded by a varied landscape of rivers, olive trees, farmland and different types of forest, from pine woods, acorn trees and the town itself consists of winding whitewashed streets, tapas bars, squares and the church and Moorish fort overlooking the entire town.

It could be said that Spanish property for sale does not come at better value in the greater Costa del Sol region than in Alozaina and Tolox. The towns lie within 1 hour of several important landmarks, including Malaga airport, Marbella & its exclusive beaches and Ronda, but also benefit from great tranquility as the area is in an Andalucian farming area, but is still not disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the coast.
